Art Show Camp

Here at The Golden Button we are celebrating the last week of Mini Summer Camps with an Art Show!!!!

The children planned and designed their own invitations and created some beautiful watercolor mixed medium pieces.

We have soooooo much going on in the next few months… So keep stopping by to see our new handmade items, keep your eye out for workshops and classes for you and your children and keep checking in for new and exciting events!!!

Just a few to keep in mind…

August 24th at 6:00 PM is our Art Show

September 1st at 1:00 PM is our Diorama Contest Award Party

September 15th is a big Festival in South Britain… The Apple Festival!!! We will be having a tent sale outside!!!

September 22nd the store will be open but we will also have a booth at the 8th Annual Fall Fine Arts Festival on the Green in Southbury.

New Needle Felting Workshops have been announced!!!!

Fiber Arts Workshops

 

Needle Felting with Rachel Gerowe of Red Barn Originals. Learn how to create beautiful  sculptures out of wool. Cost is $35. Save $5 if you bring your own needles and foam!!! (ages teen to adult)

This week….is the last week of Mini Summer Camp…

  • Art Show Camp starts tomorrow..There is one space left! Email me if you would like your child to join. goldenbuttonshop@yahoo.com.

The Voices will be coming on Friday to take pictures for the paper!!!
5-6 PM Tuesday- Friday (Art Show at 6 PM on Friday)

 

 

  • We are also having Open Painting this Wednesday and Thursday from 1-4 PM!!!

  • Saturday is our last Artist Demo…

 At 1:00 PM  Bradleigh Huzinga will do a card making Demonstration

 At 3:00 PM Dennis and Krissy of Kleiner Eisbar will have a book binding class: Learn to make a Slab Binding  (Teenage to adults)(cost is $30 plus $5 supply fee!) (Please call ahead to sign up for this event . Space is limited and it is very fun!!! these make wonderful gifts!!! Never buy a sketchbook again!)

Rose Garbien of Bittersweet Ridge is going to be doing a Yarn Spinning demonstration at 1:00!!! Come visit learn and ask questions!!!

 

 

Rachel Gerowe is going to teach Needle Felting for a suggested donation of $5!!! Donations will go to the Southbury Food Bank! (3:00- 5:00 just drop in!!!) Teenagers and up!!!

Fabric Design Mini Summer Camp!!!

This is week six of  our Mini Summer Camp at The Golden Button.

FABRIC DESIGN!

Above are some photos. We used Fabric Markers to design. Then we printed with fabric paints and found objects. At the very end of the class we began the process of Tye Dyeing with Markers!!!

The Golden Button Shop Celebrates Young Artists.

 

Next week is the final week of summer before school begins! The Golden Button is celebrating with a children’s Art Show. A series called Mini Summer Camps have been going on all summer long at The Golden Button. During the next week children ages 5 to 12 will be creating beautiful art work and learning how to put on an Art Show!

Art Show Camp runs August 21-24th from 5:00-6:00 PM. The Children will create ART…. collages, color block painting, permanent marker drawing and much more. They will learn how to plan an Art Show then at the end of the last class they will have an opening for their Art Show! There are still a few spaces available if your child wants to participate.

 

Please join us at The Golden Button on Friday August 24th at 6:00 PM to see what they have created and to see other beautiful locally handmade items and gifts!

  • I hope everyone is working on their Dioramas for our contest! you have till August 31st!!!!!

Diorama Contest

  • Artist Demos: This Saturday stop by at 1:00 to see a Yarn Spinning Demonstration with Rose Garbien!!! (It’s free- come watch and learn how Rose spins the fiber from her sheep into yarn!!!) Then at 3:00 visit Rachel Gerowe to try out Needle Felting!!! (for teenagers and up! Please) ($5 suggested donation fee to go to the Southbury Food Bank!)
  • You may also hold spaces for Artist Demos on Saturday, August 25th–

  • 12:00 PM- Jessica  of the Small Things in Life Soap will be teaching children how to hand paint soaps. The cost is $10 per child. (This is very exciting for children to do. The decorative soap paint comes off the soap in the shower but it is still very fun to learn.) Please sign up ahead of time!!

Week seven – Art Show Camp

August 21-24th from 5:00-6:00 PM
Lets create some ART…. Collages, color block painting, permanent marker drawing and much more. Create lots of art then at the end of the last class we will have a Summer Art Show!

Children’s Art Adventure (Ages 6 and up)

5:00- 5:45 PM Children are invited to explore a scientific art adventure. Use plaster to create fossils, grow crystals, and create scientific illustrations.

On Wednesdays:

Little Kids Art (Ages 2 to 5)

2:00 to 2:45 PM. Children ages 2- 5 will have fun with bubble art, nature sculptures and so much more. Young children get hands on. With lots of fun mediums and new things to try!

Kids sewing (ages 8 and up)

5:00 – 6:00 PM.  Learn basics for sewing that will last a lifetime. Children will have fun learning how to hand sew. Make different projects include…sewing button designs, hand sewing a wall hanging and making a new shirt out of old ones. A three-part class. Bring an old t-shirt to up cycle)

Open Painting (all Ages)

12:00 to 5:00 PM Relax in our workshop area and create a masterpiece. We provide a small canvas and paint supplies. Create anything you want or look at out ever growing picture collection to find inspiration. Please wear old clothes or a smock.

Art Class for Adults

Painting Classes (Adults)

7:00 PM Put the kids to bed and get out of the house. Come hangout with friends and learn how to paint. Paint at your own speed and have fun. Focus will be on creating a sketch, practice mixing colors, and learn how to make things look more realistic and having fun! We will begin with a still life and move on from there. BYOB!!!! Adults only Please. Non competitive- you do not need experience.

Image Transferring(kids ages 6 to 12)

4:30 to 5:15 PM.  Learn fun ways to transfer printed image! During this three-session class we will learn some fun transfer techniques. First we will create a gel medium transfer and next we will transfer old animal drawings using wintergreen oil, then finally we will create a beautiful piece of artwork by transferring a drawing we make ourselves. (Gel medium, wintergreen oil, and acrylic paint will be used. Please wear old clothes or a smock)

  • Artist Demos………On Saturday, August 18th–

At 1:00 PM Rose Garbein will demonstrate spinning techniques (Come meet Rose and see how to make your own yarn!!! It is fun and very interesting to watch. Ask questions and learn something fun!!) Rose of Bittersweet Ridge owns a bunch of wonderful Shetland Sheep. Rose teaches Spinning, Knitting, and Needle Felting. She also sells her soaps and her wonderful wool at The Golden Button!!!

3:00 PM Rachel Gerowe will teach you how to needle felt. (Adults and Teenagers please) There is a suggested donation of $5 that will be donated to the Southbury Food Bank. (Rachel will teach you how to make a small insect) You can come even if you have done this before. It is for a great cause!!!

Here are some photos from the first two days of our mini Shark Week Camp at The Golden Button!!!! Lots of fun!!!!

The children created Shark Sculptures out of clay. We discussed a sharks habitat and they created underwater worlds for their sharks to live in! We used found materials as well as sand and shells.
