Bent of the River July/ August Please keep in mind: Bent of the river is a beautiful natural place! Please wear comfortable shoes, bug spray, bring a drink and dress comfortably! We will normally meet outdoors but if it is raining we may cancel or meet in the barn! Check with Kate from the Golden Button if you are not sure if class is cancelled due to weather. We have special permission to drive into Bent of the River up to the barn. Please park in the upper parking lot. Thank you!

-Little Kids Nature Art Who: Children of all ages and a parent, nanny, grandparent or special adult! What: Little children have fun explore nature and creating art! All materials are safe and appropriate for little hands! When: Mondays at 5 PM July 21st, 28th and August 4th, and 11th . -Sunset Landscape Paintings Who: Anyone! What: Sunset at Bent of the River is just breathtaking! Take advantage of the beautiful landscapes and sunlight and learn how to paint! You may just see an owl! Explore and learn how to create a beautiful landscape with acrylic paint. For all levels. Classes meet on Monday evenings from 6-7:30 ish PM. We will supply tabletop easels, canvas and painting supplies! -Sewing! (August 12th-15th) Who: Children 7 and up What: Create fun projects and learn to sew! This is great for advanced beginners too! Learn or practice your stitches and create some very cool hand sewn projects! Create fun Felt projects to take home! Week 4: August 19th to August 25th

-Insects and Birds (August 19th-25th) Who: Children who love nature! What: Look for insects and birds at Bent of the River! There are so many!!! Then create fun insect or bird inspired art! Sculpt, draw and paint!!! When: 4:30-5:15 PM TUESDAY-Friday Where: Bent of The River Cost: $50 plus $15 supply fee

-Landscapes (August 19th-25th) Who: Anyone who likes landscapes or art or nature! What: Wander around Bent of the river and make beautiful landscape artwork! Try new mediums! Wear old clothes or a smock! Its so beautiful and there is so much to look at! Create beautiful paintings and drawing to take home! The Golden Button is open for business…. We are not totally restocked… but we are having classes and workshops. We will be open today till 5 PM and Sunday from noon to 5 PM. Stop by and say hello! Here is a photo of some new items…

We are having a special on Valentines paintings!!!! If you order between January 25th and February 7th you will receive 10% off your painting!!! Paintings will be ready for pick up at The Golden Button before Valentines Day. ♥

-Small Paintings (4×4, 6×6, and other similarly sized canvases will be created or $50.00) (Please only one character/ figure per canvas)

-Medium Paintings (10x 10 -12×12 to 11x 14 will run $100.00)

-Larger Paintings (18×18, 20x 20 and similar sizes will cost $150.00)

Extra large paintings and odd shaped canvases can also be created. Please contact us for additional pricing.

50% deposit is needed at time of order. You may pay the remainder of the balance when your painting is picked up.

I just got back from vacation…. I went 4,000 miles round trip! From CT to Tampa, Florida and back. It was awesome! Here are a few photos…

This year The Golden Button will be focusing on classes and workshops as well as parties. We will still have great local yarn and fiber and handmade treasures but our new layout is designed to make classes, workshops and parties more fun and comfortable for children and adults!!!! -Machine Sewing Classes

-Learn how to sew with your sewing machine! Wednesday, January 22^nd , January 29^th, February 5th and 12^th at 11:00 AM.

Cost is $60. We will supply practice material and white thread. Please bring your sewing machine and sewing machine manual. We will learn basic sewing techniques then create a project or two! After the first class you will receive few projects to pick from… You will then bring your own material for your projects. This will allow you to pick something that you love!

This class begins on Wednesday, January 22nd, 29th, and February 5th from 6:30- 8 PM

Cost is $50 plus $10 supply fee. (Supply fee does not including the cost of the yarn for your project! Discounts on yarn during class session or you can bring your own!)

Learn how to create an adorable sculpture of a pig using wool and special needles!

Learn to create a beautiful flat needle felted wall hanging!

-Create a Large Owl Sculpture!!!! (the size of a real screech owl!)

Rachel Gerowe of Red Barn Originals will teach this two-part session to create a beautiful realistic owl!

2 class sessions

Session one- Sunday, February 9^th from 1-5 PM:

Begin you sculpture! (Cost is $55 save $5 if you bring your own needles and foam)

Session two- Sunday, February 23^rd at 1 PM

Finish up your owl ($25)

Little Kids Art!

Little kids of all ages are welcome to come and create artwork on Wednesdays at 1 PM! Explore different paints, build, sculpt and create! Get your hands dirty and have some fun! Moms, Dads, or other caregivers are welcome to have some fun too! (February 5^th, 12, 19, and 26^th!)

Cost is $55 (includes cost of supplies)

The Kids learned how to “Wet Felt”

A felting technique where you use water and soap….then, agitate the wool by hand or with basic tools. We used local alpaca and sheep wool to make our artwork.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family!!! We hope you have a beautiful day and eat lots of snacks!!!

We will be open tomorrow from 11-6 and Saturday from 11-6 for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday!

I am so very excited to announce that this Friday and Saturday we will have beautiful terrariums from Kim Charles of Cider Mill Design for sale here at The Golden Button!!!! and Hot Chocolate!!!

We will also have our Stocking Stuffing Station with lots of great local items! If you spend $30 in the stocking stuffing station you get a free stocking!!!!

We will also begin our sewing Holiday gifts on Monday. We still have spaces available!!!

Kids Holiday Gift Making (same as the Friday class just condensed into three sessions!)

Thursdays from 5:30-6:50

A three-session gift making class where each week children will learn how to create different gifts for everyone! Week one: we will focus on mothers, Aunts, Grandmas and teachers, Week two: we focus on Dads, Uncles, Grandpas, and other men, Week three: we will make gifts for friends, or siblings and we will also make pet gifts!

Three Part Holiday Card Making

Bradleigh Huzinga of Stationarium will be having a wonderful Holiday card and tag making workshop.

Wednesday, November 28^th, December 5^th and December 12^th

Two classes:

Children: Wednesdays from 6:00-6:45 PM (5 and up)

Adults: Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:00 PM (adults)(you are welcome to BYOB!)

For November 28: 3 Christmas/holiday cards

For December 5: 6 gift tags

For December 12: 3 mini milk carton treat boxes

Forget buying cards for the holiday that people don’t save… Make your own beautiful paper cards, Bradleigh will walk you through the process and you will have a whole selection of holiday cards and tags just in time for the holiday season! Participants will be able to purchase supplies to make multiples of everything made during the workshops, and may also purchase the stamps used.

Cost $50 plus a $12 supply fee covers all 3 classes!!!

Hardcover Book Making class with Kleiner Eisbar

On Thursday, October 11th and 18th from 5:00 to 6:30, join Dennis and Krissy Maksymiw from Kleiner Eisbär for a two-part class in making a hardcover hand-bound Coptic book at The Golden Button in Southbury, CT. Coptic bindings are among the oldest bindings, serving as both structural and decorative facets of a book. (Coptic bound books open and lie completely flat.)

For Teenagers and Adults. This is a two-part class

Cost is $42 plus $5 supply fee

Adult’s night out this Thursday!

Friday we have….

October 12^th: Making Stuffed Animals ($25 per stuffed creation)

Turn your drawings into pillows and stuffed animals.

Design a drawing, color it in, and then have it transformed into a stuffed animal or pillow for you!!! Children who are 8 or older or have an adults help may hand sew their creations! (No sewing for small children. You can leave them at the shop and they can be assembled for you) (please allow a week for finished product)

Drop in between 1:00 and 5:00 PM, Meet with your friends. All ages welcome!!! A different Project each Friday!!!!

Learn How to Knit Fingerless Gloves!!!

Saturday, October 13^th at 3:00 PM- about 5:00 PM

Advanced beginners class: This is a great one session class for beginners or people who know how to knit and purl, and increase or for people who need a refresher course in knitting! Learn how to make perfect knit fingerless Gloves!!! These are wonderful fast gifts perfect for many people. Start your Holiday gift making now!!!
