Hey everyone… I just found out that there is no school tomorrow…. so If you want to get out of the house… The Golden Button is offering Open Painting tomorrow… Stop in between 12 and 4:30 PM we will have all the supplies you need to make a fabulous painting. Meet your friends, hangout. and get out of the house!!! Cost is $12 per canvas! ♥

You have till 5 PM to paint. All ages are welcome

Learn to Stitch a Sampler

Date: Sunday March 3 and March 10, 2013, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Location: Old Town Hall Museum, Route 172, South Britain

Fee: This program is free, but registration is required. Please call 203-405-3124 to register.

On Sunday, March 3 and March 10, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., the Southbury Historical Society, in partnership with The Golden Button, will offer a special two-part needle-working program for youth ages 8 and older at the Old Town Hall Museum in South Britain.

In the first part of this program on Sunday, March 3, Kate Gorham, owner of The Golden Button in South Britain will teach children basic embroidery techniques, needle safety, stitches and how to apply them. Supplies are provided for the class and participants will begin by creating a “Stitch Book” for use as a guide. On Sunday, March 10, using the techniques and stitches learned, participants will create a simple decorative sampler.

Historically, learning to stitch a sampler – a decorative piece of needlework – was an important part of a schoolgirl’s formal education. Young girls made samplers as a way of learning embroidery techniques, which would be useful in clothes making and marking and repairing the household linen. Early samplers were simple in design with alphabets and numerals. As samplers evolved, they became more decorative with motifs of fruit, flowers, trees, birds and animals.

This program is free, but registration is required as space is limited.

Paper Flowers…. I am planning a Paper Flower Making Class for March! One for kids and one for adults!

Valentine Making and Cookies

Valentine Making tomorrow!!!

Unfortunately… We missed out on many hours of Valentine Making…. but if you are around between 12 and 5 PM tomorrow you can drop by The Golden Button we have TONS of Valentine supplies for you to make some special Valentines. Gluten free peanut butter and jelly cookies and tea for moms ♥ (cost is $14 for one kit. Save $ if you get more than one)

We also have lots of beautiful handmade Valentines, jewelry, lovely yarn and other treasures for your Valentines. We will be open from 11:00 AM to 5:oo PM!

We are very sad the we had to give away all our chocolate treats from the very snowed out Local Love Event…. but we do have some peanut butter and jelly cookies for tomorrow.

This is what the shop looked like after the snow storm. Now its all sad and rainy out. Lets hope we get some nice weather by tomorrow or Wednesday.

Little Animals Class

(ages 3-5)
Lets learn about animals while creating art!
We will explore shapes of animals with printmaking and drawing, We will learn about textures of animals by creating
“animal skins”. We will make some beautiful animals inspired artwork!February 14th, 21st, 28th and March 7th!
1:00 -1:45 PM on Thursdays.
Cost is $50 plus a $13 supply fee.

We created animals out of paper mache clay and then we made little homes for them to live in. At the end of class the children made Valentines!

Begins at 5:00 PM till about 7:00 PM

Cost is $75 plus $20 supply fee.

Open Valentine Making this Wednesday. Stop in between 12-5 PM to make Valentine Cards and Tags. $14 per kit!

The Kids learned how to “Wet Felt”

A felting technique where you use water and soap….then, agitate the wool by hand or with basic tools. We used local alpaca and sheep wool to make our artwork.
