Bent of the River July/ August Please keep in mind: Bent of the river is a beautiful natural place! Please wear comfortable shoes, bug spray, bring a drink and dress comfortably! We will normally meet outdoors but if it is raining we may cancel or meet in the barn! Check with Kate from the Golden Button if you are not sure if class is cancelled due to weather. We have special permission to drive into Bent of the River up to the barn. Please park in the upper parking lot. Thank you!
-Little Kids Nature Art Who: Children of all ages and a parent, nanny, grandparent or special adult! What: Little children have fun explore nature and creating art! -Sewing! (August 12th-15th) Who: Children 7 and up What: Create fun projects and learn to sew! This is great for advanced beginners too! Learn or practice your stitches and create some very cool hand sewn projects! Create fun Felt projects to take home! Week 4: August 19th to August 25th
-Insects and Birds (August 19th-25th) Who: Children who love nature! What: Look for insects and birds at Bent of the River! There are so many!!! Then create fun insect or bird inspired art! Sculpt, draw and paint!!! When: 4:30-5:15 PM TUESDAY-Friday Where: Bent of The River Cost: $50 plus $15 supply fee
-Landscapes (August 19th-25th) Who: Anyone who likes landscapes or art or nature! What: Wander around Bent of the river and make beautiful landscape artwork! Try new mediums! Wear old clothes or a smock! Its so beautiful and there is so much to look at! Create beautiful paintings and drawing to take home! The Golden Button is partnering with Audubon Center at Bent of the River, in Southbury, to bring fun and exciting classes and workshops to the community.
Summer Classes in June to July….
Learn to create pictures and designs while hand sewing. Add embellishments to pillows, clothes, bags and blankets! Learn how to join fabric and add item like lace. This class is excellent for adding an artistic touch to already made items! These basic techniques can be used to make a sampler or a finished piece for clothing! So much fun! You can create anything!
Children 8 and up please. We will learn our stitches then learn how to apply them!
Tuesdays 4:15 to 5:15 PM
June 24th, July 1st July 8th and July 15th
Cost is $70 plus $15 supply fee.
Learn how to crochet! Great if you are new to crochet or need a refresher! Learn all your stitches and how to apply them! Then create the project of your choice! You can opt to create a granny squares blanket, make toy fruits and veggies, or little amigurumi animals!!! So much fun! We will supply patterns and everything you need. Work at your own pace and learn to crochet!
Tuesday evenings 5:30-6:30 PM
June 24th, July 1st July 8th and July 15th

Visit Southbury’s own Audubon Center at Bent of the River and create some beautiful nature art. Incorporate natural materials in you artwork!
Create a bird sculpture, make a painting with found objects, Learn about installation art in nature and make a sculpture then photograph it! Lots of fun!

Needle Felting Classes
Join us in Woodbury (at CAST PRESCHOOL) for some Needle Felting taught by Rachel Gerowe of Red Barn Originals!
Thursday, May 29th from 6:30 to 9:00 PM
Cost is $40 (save $5 if you bring your own needles and foam)
Create a 4 inch (or smaller) sheep sculpture using special barbed needles and beautiful curly fiber. You will have enough material to make one at home!
Sunday, June 1st from 1-5 PM
Cost is $60 (save $5 if you bring your own needles and foam)
Rachel Gerowe of Red Barn Originals will teach you how to create these beautiful large sheep using special curly fiber!

Learn how to sew with your sewing machine! March 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th
Cost is $60. We will supply practice material and white thread. Please bring your sewing machine and sewing machine manual. We will learn basic sewing techniques then create a project or two! After the first class you will receive few projects to pick from… You will then bring your own material for your projects. This will allow you to pick something that you love!
