New Classes at Bent of the River

We are extremely excited to announce……

The Golden Button is partnering with Audubon Center at Bent of the River, in Southbury, to bring fun and exciting classes and workshops to the community.

Summer Classes in  June to July….

 

-Hand Sewing and Embroidery Basics for Kids

Learn to create pictures and designs while hand sewing. Add embellishments to pillows, clothes, bags and blankets! Learn how to join fabric and add item like lace. This class is excellent for adding an artistic touch to already made items! These basic techniques can be used to make a sampler or a finished piece for clothing! So much fun! You can create anything!

Children 8 and up please. We will learn our stitches then learn how to apply them!

 

Tuesdays 4:15 to 5:15 PM

June 24th, July 1st July 8th and July 15th

Cost is $70 plus $15 supply fee.

 

 

Crochet Basics

Learn how to crochet! Great if you are new to crochet or need a refresher! Learn all your stitches and how to apply them! Then create the project of your choice! You can opt to create a granny squares blanket, make toy fruits and veggies, or little amigurumi animals!!! So much fun! We will supply patterns and everything you need. Work at your own pace and learn to crochet!

-Kids Nature Art

 

Visit Southbury’s own Audubon Center at Bent of the River and create some beautiful nature art. Incorporate natural materials in you artwork!

Create a bird sculpture, make a painting with found objects, Learn about installation art in nature and make a sculpture then photograph it! Lots of fun!

 

Class open to children 5 and up.

 

When: June 25th and July 2nd, July 9th and 16th

Meets Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15 PM

 

Cost: $70 and $15 supply fee

 

 

-Sunset Landscape Paintings at Bent of the River

 

Sunset at Bent of the River is just breathtaking! Take advantage of the beautiful landscapes and sunlight and learn how to paint! You may just see an owl!

Explore and learn how to create a beautiful landscape with acrylic paint. For all ages and levels. Classes meet on Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30 ish PM.

Haunted House Making Today

Today is Haunted House Making at The Golden Button

Getting ready to make Haunted Houses! Today at The Golden Button $20 per person. Make an awesome Haunted hour stop in between 1 and 5 PM (You have till 6 PM to work but you have to be here by 5 PM!) — at The Golden Button.

  

We have some treats….Gluten Free/ Dairy Free Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies and

Cake Balls.

Find your Animal Spirit…

Here is a little quiz you can try to see what animals are your Life Long Animal Totems…

  • When you were a child, what animal did you collect or obsess over that you are still attracted to today?
  • Of all animals if you could have any animal as a pet or companion what would it be?
  • When going to the zoo, which animal do you spend the most time with or are drawn to?
  • If you could be any animal what animal would it be?
  • What animal is in your dreams that you have had since childhood?
  • What animal are you afraid of that you have no idea why you are afraid of it?
  • Of all animals what animals are you most attracted to?
  • When you are out in nature, do you often seem to run into the same animal?
  • What animal have you bumped into over and over throughout your life?
  • What animal have you watched for hours?
  • Does art work or jewelry with a certain animal always attract you?

Which ever animals show up the most are your totems.
Then you can come make your animal totem charm today till 5 PM at The Golden Button.

Making Fossils

I would Like to let you know… that we have changes the schedule for the Kid’s Sewing Class this month. You can still sign up!!!! It is begins next week!

Kids Sewing (ages 8 and up) UPDATED SCHEDULE!!!!!!

5:00 – 6:00 PM. Learn basics for sewing that will last a lifetime. Children will have fun learning how to hand sew. Make different projects include…sewing button designs, hand sewing a wall hanging and making a new shirt out of old ones. A three-part class. Bring an old t-shirt to up cycle)

September 19, 26, and October 3rd.

We looked at beautiful Fossils from New York then we made our own with real objects including shells, rocks, arrowheads and other found treasures from nature. Then the children used their new notebooks for scientific drawings!

Plant Sale!

We are having a Plant Sale at The Golden Button….

On Friday, May 4th at 2:00 pm

Rose from Bittersweet Ridge in Roxbury will be at The Golden Button to sell her locally grown plants!!!

We will also we doing Mother’s Day crafts at that time!

(we do have some of her Columbines for sale now. Stop by tomorrow to pick some up!)

Learning to Make Yarn!

When I was getting ready to open The Golden Button I met Rose Garbien from Bittersweet Ridge Farm. Rose has a bunch of Shetland Sheep and Angora Rabbits. Rose makes her own yarn and her own soap and she knits and felts!!!  I wanted to learn how to make my own yarn for quite a while now…. So Rose agreed to do a Drop Spindle Workshop. Its a two part class where we learn all about different fibers and tools and how to make our own yarn. It was wonderful!


Here is my yarn before I took it off the Drop Spindle… We had soooooo much fun!!!!!

Next week Rose is going to show us her Spinning Wheel!!!!!!!! Can’t wait. Thanks Rose!

Don’t forget we have a Acrylic Painting Workshop… cost is $30 at 4:30 on Wednesday….

Learn to paint still life flowers. Focus on color texture and form.

This Friday afternoon Bradleigh H. is coming to do Open Card Making. She will be offering a different card every Month!

Cost is $10. You may show up anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 pm.
