Today, Tomorrow, and The Next Day

Today was the first day of Little Kid Art Class of October…

If you missed the first class but would like to attend the next three please contact The Golden Button for information.

The children tried all sorts of materials today and had so much fun exploring color mixing, different types of mediums and lots of glue and of course… glitter.

Other classes will include…

bubble art, nature sculptures and much much more!

Tomorrow stop in between 1:00 and 5:00 PM to create beautiful Autumn Prints. We will be creating prints with leaves, and vegetables. Create a beautiful print on Fabric to take home for $10.

The Next Day (Saturday) We will be closed for my cousin Amanda’s Wedding to Kurt!!!! I wish them great happiness and the best of luck! I am so excited to see them get married!!!

Just a reminder….

  • The Beginners Sewing Class will start on Monday.

  •  Machine Sewing For Beginners (ages 10 and up) 

On Mondays at 5:30 to 6:30 PM

October 8, 15, 22, and 29th

Bring your own machine and manual to The Golden Button on Monday evenings in October and learn basic sewing machine techniques. This is a four-session class. You will learn all sort of things from how to work your machine, cutting a pattern, straight stitch and finishing edges all leading to a pillow as your finished product.  (adults are welcome to come too)

Taught by Maura Bergman

Cost is $75 for a 4-class session plus $16 supply fee.

  • Next week we will be offering Hard Cover Book Making with Dennis and Krissy of Kleiner Eisbar! 

    (teenagers and Adults)

    On Thursday, October 11th and 18th from 5:00 to 6:30, join Dennis and Krissy Maksymiw from Kleiner Eisbär for a two-part class in making a hardcover hand-bound Coptic book at The Golden Button in Southbury, CT. Coptic bindings are among the oldest bindings, serving as both structural and decorative facets of a book. (Coptic bound books open and lie completely flat.)

    For Teenagers and Adults. This is a two-part class

    Cost is $42 plus $5 supply fee

    Please sign up ahead of time The Deadline to sign up is October 9th. Please contact The Golden Button before then to hold a space. Space is limited!

We Grew Some Crystals on Rocks

Today was our last day of Kid’s Art Adventure Class!

The children made fossils, crystals, and scientific drawings!

Making Fossils

I would Like to let you know… that we have changes the schedule for the Kid’s Sewing Class this month. You can still sign up!!!! It is begins next week!

Kids Sewing (ages 8 and up) UPDATED SCHEDULE!!!!!!

5:00 – 6:00 PM. Learn basics for sewing that will last a lifetime. Children will have fun learning how to hand sew. Make different projects include…sewing button designs, hand sewing a wall hanging and making a new shirt out of old ones. A three-part class. Bring an old t-shirt to up cycle)

September 19, 26, and October 3rd.

We looked at beautiful Fossils from New York then we made our own with real objects including shells, rocks, arrowheads and other found treasures from nature. Then the children used their new notebooks for scientific drawings!

Beginning next Saturday…. in August we are having some of our favorite artists in the shop doing demonstrations for you….

On Saturday, August 4th

1:00 PM Eileen Gorham and Kate Gorham will be demonstrating crocheting.

Eileen Warner and Ann Deduck of Alpaca Hill Farms in Seymour will show off their knitting skills.  Sale on Local yarn and Alpaca prints by local photographer Pauly Occhialini. (Stop by to say hello and meet the artists)

Saturday, August 11th:

At 1:00 PM Kate Gorham will be demonstrating how to create felt food! Come and learn how to make felt food and get a kit for $12. (children 8 and up) Hand Sewing with needles… (Please call ahead to sign up for this event)

At 3:00 PM Kate Gorham Owner of The Golden Button will be demonstrating painting then for $10 you may create a masterpiece of your own to take home! All Ages welcome

Making Some Books!!!

Today we were so lucky to have Dennis and Krissy of Kleiner Eisbar come to the shop and do some Book Making! My husband and I were very lucky to get to participate in the workshop!!!

We are offering another Book Making Workshop on August 25th At 3:00 PM Dennis and Krissy of Kleiner Eisbar will have a book binding class: Learn to make a Stab Binding (teenagers and  adults please)(cost is $30 plus $5 supply fee!) (Please call ahead to sign up for this event)

Mini Summer Camp Schedule!!!

Drum roll Please……… Okay here it is the Mini Summer Camp schedule we promised you.

The Golden Button is offering Mini Summer Camps! These mini camps are designed for your child to explore fun and new things. Each week in July and August we are offering a variety of different sessions that will run from Tuesday through Friday. We will meet for about one hour a day. Plan ahead and hold a spot now! Space is limited! Each Mini Summer Camp week costs $50 plus a $10 supply fee.

Week One- Summer Night Camp

July 10-13th from 5:00-6:00 PM (All ages welcome)
For four days in July, your child will create beautiful creations based on the theme A SUMMER NIGHT. Each Child will create a night sky painting complete with glowing stars, a terrarium for a collection of fireflies, a special pillowcase and their very own up-cycled book.

Week Two- Sewing Camp

July 17-20 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Ages 8 and up)
Introduction to kids sewing. Each child will receive a small sewing kit to learn basic sewing. We will discuss sewing safety and learn how to create simple patterns. Your child will make food and other creations out of felt. Simple basic hand sewing for kids!

Week Three- Art Camp

July 24th-27th from 5:00-6:00 PM (All Ages)
Explore several mediums this week. Get comfortable with pastels, watercolor and create a large 3-D painting. You are going to want to wear a smock! Your child will work at his or her own level. All ages are welcome.

Week Four- Diorama Camp

July 31st to August 3rd from 4:00-5:00 PM (Ages 6 and Up)
Your child will build his or her own imaginative world. We will spend the four days for this mini camp planning, designing, and building an interactive diorama with lots of kid friendly materials. We will also spend some time creating characters to use in the diorama.
Week five- I Love Jewelry Camp

August 7-10th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Ages 4 and up)
If your child loves jewelry and building things this is a great series for them. Your child will create simple jewelry, a very cool jewelry stand with cups and saucers, a jewelry box and some polymer clay jewels.

Week six- Fabric Design Camp

August 14-17th from 4:30 to 5:30 PM
Play with fabric this week…try a new way to tye-dye, make freezer paper prints, print textiles or experiment with different fabric markers. Learn all different techniques. Design a tote bag and up-cycle an old t-shirt from home!

Week seven – Art Show Camp

August 21-24th from 5:00-6:00 PM
Lets create some ART…. Collages, color block painting, permanent marker drawing and much more. Create lots of art then at the end of the last class we will have a Summer Art Show!

Keep in mind… Next weekend we are hosting terrarium making at The Golden Button!!! next Saturday and Sunday. We will have everything you need to create a beautiful terrarium to take home. The cost will be $15 per container!!!
