Hardcover Book Making with Dennis and Krissy from Kleiner Eisbär

On Thursday, October 11th and 18th from 5:00 to 6:30, join Dennis and Krissy Maksymiw from Kleiner Eisbär for a two-part class in making a hardcover hand-bound Coptic book at The Golden Button in Southbury, CT. Coptic bindings are among the oldest bindings, serving as both structural and decorative facets of a book. (Coptic bound books open and lie completely flat.)

For Teenagers and Adults. This is a two-part class

Cost is $42 plus $5 supply fee

Please sign up ahead of time The Deadline to sign up is October 9th. Please contact The Golden Button before then to hold a space. Space is limited!

October at The Golden Button!!!

October is a very important month for The Golden Button….

We will be celebrating our One Year Anniversary!!!!

We have some very wonderful events, workshops and classes planned!!! Stop by anytime in October and guess how many buttons are in our button jar. At the end of October we will award the correct guesser with a very special gift from The Golden Button!!!

Machine Sewing For Beginners (ages 9 and up) More information to come!!!!

On Mondays at 5:30 to 6:30 PM

Bring your own sewing machine. Learn the basics and how to use your machine finish the four week class off by creating your own pillow.

How to Draw Spooky Things…(ages 5 and up)

Tuesdays at 5:00- 5:45 PM

Since Halloween is coming up sign up for a Halloween drawing class!  Learn to draw haunted houses, scary monsters, ghosts, jack-o lanters, witches moons, spooky cats and much more! Then on the last day of class make a super scary painting out of Halloween things!!!

5 week Class!!!

October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30th!

Cost is $65 plus $10 supply fee!

Making Monsters and Other Stuffed Creatures and Dolls! (ages 8 and up.)

Wednesdays at 5:00 to 5:45 PM

Design your own monsters then build them!! Begin by drawing a monster creation. Then use materials to actually make it into a stuffed animal!

(Some basic hand sewing experience is a plus)

October 10, 17 and 24

Cost is $48 plus $10 supply fee.

Little Kids Art (Ages 2 to 5)

Thursdays 2:00 to 2:45 PM.

Children: ages 2- 5 will have fun with bubble art, nature sculptures and so much more. Young children get hands on. With lots of fun mediums and new things to try!

On Fridays….

Drop in between 1:00 and 5:00 PM, Meet with your friends. All ages welcome!!! A different Project each Friday!!!!

October 5th: Vegetable and Leaf printmaking ($10)

All ages are welcome to come and explore printing on material. Practice printing them make a beautiful Print to take home and display! (wear a smock or old clothes)

October 12th: Making Stuffed Animals ($25 per stuffed creation)

Turn your drawings into pillows and stuffed animals.

Design a drawing, color it in, and then have it transformed into a stuffed animal or pillow for you!!! (No sewing) (please allow a week for finished product)

October 19th: Make Your Own Animals Totem Amulet ($10)

(All ages are welcome to come create an animal sculpture out of clay but older children and adults will understand it more than others)

Learn how to find your animal totem! Then learn how to create it out of clay. Leave it overnight and have it turned into a wonderful permanent piece of art that you can wear or carry with you.

October 26th:  Haunted House Sculpture ($20) (Ages 4 and up)

Build a haunted house out of lots of fun recycled and found objects. Make a hill, spooky house, make witches and ghosts crooked windows and much much more! Perfect scary sculpture for Halloween!!!

Learn How to Knit Fingerless Gloves!!!

Saturday, October 13th  at 3:00 PM- about 5:00 PM

Advanced beginners class: This is a great one session class for beginners or people who know how to knit and purl, and increase or for people who need a refresher course in knitting! Learn how to make perfect knit fingerless Gloves!!! These are wonderful fast gifts perfect for many people. Start your Holiday gift making now!!!

Taught by Patti Clark of Maple View Farm in Orange.

Cost is $35 for the class.

Paint a Pumpkin

Saturday,October 20th Stop by anytime between 1:00 to 5:00 to paint your very own wooden pumpkin cutout. All ages are welcome $5.00 per pumpkin! While pumpkins last!!! Wear a old t shirt or smock. Leave your pumpkin till Tuesday and we will varnish it for you!

Needle Felting Witches

Sunday October 14th from 2-4:30 PM

Come and create a WITCH!!! Learn how to Needle Felt a witch with Rachel Gerowe of Red Barn Original. (Cost is $35. Save $5 if you bring your own foam and needles!) (teenagers and up please)

South Britain Historical Walk

Saturday October 27th (Free) join us after the South Britian Historical walk for Hot Chocolate and Fiber Art Demonstrations! See Local artists who knit, Crochet, Needle Felt and spin their own yarn!!!

This is a very exciting weekend. When I close the store tonight I have to run over to Bethlehem Fairgrounds to drop off my Needle Felting submission….

Wish me luck.

Then tomorrow… It is the final day for Diorama drop offs!!!

Diorama Contest/ Fundraiser for The Kitty Connection

On Saturday at 1:00 come have a treat and see some beautiful Dioramas that have been created for our Diorama Contest!!!!  Hand Made ribbons will be awarded! You still have till Friday at 6:00 to drop off Dioramas!!!! All ages are welcome to join!!!

Ribbons will be awarded in six categories….

Including:

Most Creative

Most Realistic

Best Use of Materials

We are Nearly One Year Old!!!

Here at The Golden Button we are starting to plan some wonderful Autumn Events… One very special event we are planning is our

 ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!!!

To celebrate we have a great calendar of events during September and October.

(Not to rush you through your year… but we get excited around here.)

Today is our Art Show at 6:00 PM. The last day of our Mini Summer Camps! It has been wonderful!!!!! Really wonderful. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Next Friday you can drop off your Dioramas for our Diorama Contest. Then Next Saturday at 1:00 PM we will be having a Diorama Party!!!! To give Awards and eat treats!

5:00- 5:45 PM Children are invited to explore a scientific art adventure. Use plaster to create fossils, grow crystals, and create scientific illustrations.

Open Painting (all Ages)

12:00 to 5:00 PM Relax in our workshop area and create a masterpiece. We provide a small canvas and paint supplies. Create anything you want or look at out ever growing picture collection to find inspiration. Please wear old clothes or a smock.

Art Class for Adults

Painting Classes (Adults)

7:00 PM Put the kids to bed and get out of the house. Come hangout with friends and learn how to paint. Paint at your own speed and have fun. Focus will be on creating a sketch, practice mixing colors, and learn how to make things look more realistic and having fun! We will begin with a still life and move on from there. BYOB!!!! Adults only Please. Non competitive- you do not need experience.

Image Transferring(kids ages 6 to 12)

4:30 to 5:15 PM.  Learn fun ways to transfer printed image! During this three-session class we will learn some fun transfer techniques. First we will create a gel medium transfer and next we will transfer old animal drawings using wintergreen oil, then finally we will create a beautiful piece of artwork by transferring a drawing we make ourselves. (Gel medium, wintergreen oil, and acrylic paint will be used. Please wear old clothes or a smock)
