I just wanted to let you know that for the next two weeks we will be offering Father’s Day Gift Making at The Golden Button….

Father’s Day Gift Making

You are invited to visit The Golden Button to make a wonderful, one of a kind, gift for your father or Grandfather.

“I love you more than__________”

Make an “I love you more than__________” Painting.  There is no age limit but we ask that you wear old clothes or smocks. We will be using acrylic paint, which will stain clothes.  You do not need to call ahead for this activity but you can if you want.

The cost is $12 for a 8×10 canvas board and all the supplies. We will be using a canvas board so that you may frame your artwork if you would like. On the following dates you may come to The Golden Button to make your paintings…

Wednesday, June 6th from 2-5:30 PM

Friday June 8th from 2-5:30 PM

Saturday, June 9th from 1:00 to 5:30 PM

Wednesday, June 13th from 2-5:30 Pm

Friday June 15th from 2-5:30 PM

Mini Terrarium or Garden Design- a gift for Dad!! 

You may come to create a mini terrarium or mini garden. We will have containers and everything you will need to create a home for your plant.

This would be a fun activity to do with your father!!!

Saturday, June 16th from 1:00 to 5:30 PM

and Sunday, June 17th from 1:00 to 4:30 PM

The cost is $20 per container includes supplies and instruction.

Sundays and Mondays we will be closed (except for workshops)

Getting Ready for Summer!

I know thats rushing it a bit but I just wanted to announce a few new workshops and remind you about the awesome things that are happening in June at The Golden Button!

Okay first off… these new class series for kids….

Exploring Art– From  4:15- 5:00 P.M

On Tuesdays in June…. Exploring Art is open to children ages 3 and 4. We encourage art exploration with clay, paint, markers, and other fun things. Each workshop will focus on a different medium. This class runs for 4 weeks.                                                                                                    Instructor is K. Gorham.

Tuesday June 5, 12, 19 and 26th.        Cost is $50 plus a $6 supply fee

Portrait Art: From 5:15- 6:00 P.M.

On Tuesdays in June… Portrait Art is open to all children over 5 years old who are interested in creating portraits or art based on people. Using different techniques and mediums this four week class will explore many different approaches to creating portraits. Painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture.

Tuesday June 5, 12, 19 and 26th.        Cost is $50 plus a $10 supply fee

Cardboard Sculpture Workshops: From 5:00- 6:00 PM

On Thursdays in June…. Create detailed sculptures out of cardboard, fabric and other materials. Want to make a dragon, a ship, a unicorn, created a giant squid. If you can think it we will find a way to build it. This class is 3 parts. First week is planning, designing, and beginning- second week we will build the sculpture and the third week we will use acrylic paint and fabric and other objects to finish the piece. You will love creating large sculptures out of cardboard.

Ages: 5 and over

Thursdays in June 7, 14 and 21      (Cost is $45.00 for 3 classes)

Glass Demonstration and Bead Making with Dawn Lombard

Sunday, June 3rd (cost is $30 to make your own bead)

1-2 pm

Join Dawn Lombard at The Golden Button on June 3rd from 1-2pm for a live demonstration of glass bead making and get the opportunity to make your very own glass bead.

Dawn Lombard is a glass artist who is fascinated by the combination of creativity and scientific complexity of working with glass. She strives to differentiate herself by creating earthy and organic style lampwork glass beads in her studios in Monroe and Watertown, Connecticut. She has written multiple tutorials for the UK magazine ‘Making Jewellery’, was featured in the books ‘1000 Jewelry Creations’, ‘Creative Lampwork’ and ‘Creative Glass Beads’, was a featured glass artist in ‘The Beading Times,’ and won first place in Delphi’s ‘Art Glass Festival’ in 2011. She sells her jewelry online (www.LavenderDawn.Etsy.com), at The Golden Button in Southbury, Voila Gallery in Wickford Village, RI, and participates in many art shows throughout New England.

You may attend the demonstration and not participate in bead making. Its up to you!

 

Needle Felting- Cats

Sunday, June 10th we will be making fiber sculptures of Cats
2:00-4:30ish pm
Cost: $35 includes materials to make a cat in class and another at home. (color of your choice)
(Bring your own needles and foam and save $5)

Also… we will be offering some sewing workshops and other fun classes in June. Including Father’s Day Crafts where your children can make some very special gifts for Dad! And some One Day Summer Art Workshops in June and July!!!

 (pss….Hey and incase I forgot to tell you… we just got a bunch of great new items at the shop and we have gift certificates so you can get a child you love an art class or two!!!)

Bakery Painting

Super fun event next weekend!!!!!

Bakery Painting…

All ages!!! Next Friday and Saturday! (3-5 PM)

Come and decorate a cupcake then paint a picture of it. Lots of fun! Bring a friend!!!
(Cost is $30 includes everything cupcakes, decorations, canvas, sparkles, sequins and paint!!)

  • Animal Painting with Kate from The Golden Button

Friday, May 18th from 2-5 P.M

(Cost is $25.00 includes supplies) Create a beautiful painting of an animal you love. Bring a photograph or two for reference.  Wear an old t-shirt or smock. Open to all ages. Come with a friend!

  • Make your Own Watercolors- Learn how to make your own watercolors with non-toxic, fun ingredients. Make them… then take them home with you to keep and get the recipe so you can make them again and again! All ages are welcome!

Saturday, May 19th.  Call ahead to save a spot… then come anytime between 1 and 5 P.M.

(Cost is $15 per person)

  • Kool-Aid Dying Workshop- Learn how to dye wool fibers with fun colored drink mix!!! This is permanent and non-toxic and FUN!!! We will be doing this outside.  All ages are welcome.  Come in old clothes and learn how to dye your own roving and yarn.  15% Discounts off our yarn during this workshop!!!!! Watch a demonstration then try it yourself. We will also be doing some hand painting!

Saturday, May 20th from 2-4

(Rain date is May 27th) Cost is 15.00 plus $10.00 supply fee.

Mother’s Day Shopping and Tiny Art

This week stop by at The Golden Button to find beautiful, unique, handmade items for Mothers and Grandmothers and all the special women in your life!

We have beautiful garden decorations, soaps, yarn, fibers, bags, clutches, jewelry, gourds, bird feeders and much much more!

On Friday Night from 4-6 Pm we will be having a Mother’s Day Shopping Event with treats, giveaways and gift wrapping! (Ladies send your men)

On Wednesdays in May … Children will explore a tiny world of art. In this class we will focus on miniatures. While taking our time and planning, we will create some amazing little projects. Children will have a mini art show at The Golden Button to finish up their class.  This class is open to children age 6 and up.                                          Instructor is K. Gorham

Connecticut Sheep and Wool Festival

I went to the CT Sheep and Wool Festival in Tolland, Connecticut today.

I found a lot of new fibers for the store and myself today. I also saw some cute little animals.

I almost took this rabbit home.

I met some great people and bought some new roving for the shop and for our Koolaid Dying Workshop in May. I also saw Eileen from Alpaca Hill, Patti from Maple View Farm, and Rose from Bittersweet Ridge!!!!
